*Groom, father, and brother enter the taxi*

 

Taxi Driver: Good afternoon sir, how are you?

 

Father: We are fine sir, but we are late for my son’s wedding. Please drive fast!

 

Taxi Driver: I have heard you, where do you want to go?

 

Groom: Please take us to Cambridge Commons.

 

Taxi Driver: No problem, we will get there by 4pm.

 

Groom, Brother, and Father: Thank you!

 

Taxi Driver: Groom, how are you feeling about the wedding?

 

Groom: I am so happy/excited!

 

Groom Brother: There will be lots of food and loud music. It will be a good party (say owambe)

 

Father: We will wear green, blue and white, traditional clothing.

 

Taxi Driver: Ehh, that is good.

 

Father: Please come to the wedding, it will be great!

 

Taxi Driver: I will come sir!

Àbúrò ọkọ ìyàwó: A máa ní oúnjẹ púpọ̀ àti orísirísi orin

 

Bàbá: A máa wọ aṣọ Yoruba àwọ̀ igi, funfun, àti ojú orun.

 

Awakọ̀ takisí: Ehh, iyén dára.

 

Bàbá: E ba wa wá si ìgbéyàwó, o máa dára gan!.

 

Awakọ̀ taksí: Mo máa wá sa!

Scene 2

 

Mother: Where are they?

(Referring to groom’s family)

 

Bride: They are running too late!

 

Mother: Ah ah

 

Bride: How about the food?

 

Mother: The food is not set on the table.

 

Bride: Ehh, where is the chef?

 

Mother: Over there.

 

*Bride walks over to server*

 

Bride: Excuse me, where is the food?

 

Server: Don’t yell! I will do everything now.

 

Bride: Do not talk to me like that, I am the bride!

 

Server: Why? I can say whatever I want!

 

Bride: How dare you! It’s getting too late!

 

*Best man enters*

 

Best man: What is going on?

 

Bride: This man gave me a lot of trouble!

 

Best man: Please relax. I will deal with him.

 

Bride: Thank you so much.

 

Bride and best man stare at each other flirtatiously and groom’s family enters

 

Groom: Sofiyat please forgive me for being late.

 

Bride and best man quickly separate as groom walks in

 

Bride: It is okay. How are you?

 

Groom: I am fine. I didn’t know you knew Daniel.

 

Bride: We’ve met a few times before. (looks suspicious)

 

Best man: Yeah, we’ve met before.

 

Groom: When did you guys meet?

 

Best man: In one of my classes at MIT

Màmá: Níbo ni won wa?

 

Ìyàwó: Wọ́n ti pé jù!

 

Màmá: Ah ah

 

Ìyàwò: Oúnje̩ ńkó̩?

 

Màmá: Oúnje̩ wà lórí tábìlì.

 

Ìyàwó: Ehh, níbo ni alásè wà?

 

Màmá: Nibẹ̀ ye̩n.

 

Ìyàwó: Ẹ jọ̀ọ́, níbo ni oúnje̩ wà?!!

 

Alásè: Ẹ má pari wo! Mo ma ṣe gbogbo e̩ nisisìyí.

 

Ìyàwó: Ẹ má ba mi sọ̀rọ́ bayí. Èmi ni ìyàwó!

 

Alásè: Kílódé? Mo lè sọ ohun tí ó bá wù mi!

 

Ìyàwó: Báwo lo ṣe lè sọ bẹ́ẹ̀! O ti n pé jù!

 

*Best man enters*

 

Orẹ́-Ọkọ: Kíló n’ṣẹlẹ̀?

 

Ìyàwó: Ọkùnrin yii fún mi ni wàhálà púpọ!

 

Orẹ́-Ọkọ: Jọ̀ọ́, sinmi. Mo máa ba wọn sọ̀rọ̀.

 

Ìyàwó: Ẹ şẹ́ gan ni.

 

Bride and best man stare at each other flirtatiously and groom’s family enters

 

Ọkọ ìyàwó: Sofiyat, jọ̀ọ́ dáríjì mi fún pípẹ́.

 

Bride and best man quickly separate as groom comes in

 

Ìyàwó: Kò sí wàhálà. Bá wo ni?

 

Ọkọ ìyàwó: Dáadáa ni. Mi ò mò̩ pé o mọ Daniel.

 

Ìyàwó: A ti pàdé ní ìgbà díẹ̀ sẹ̀yìn.

 

Orẹ́-Ọkọ: Bẹ́ẹ̀ni, a ti pàdé rí

 

Ọkọ ìyàwó: Nígbà wo ni ẹ pàdé ? (faces Daniel)

Scene 3

 

*Wedding music playing as people sit down for the ceremony*

 

Officiator: Welcome to the wedding ceremony for Tito and Sofiyat. May the bride and groom come to the front?

 

Bride and groom walk to the podium (in front of officiator) to exchange vows.

 

Groom: I love you so much.

 

Bride: Thank you– *Hesitantly*

 

Officiator: Does anyone object to the marriage of Ayomide and Tito?

 

Best man: Yes! (Shouts)

 

Everybody in unison: AHH AHH

 

Father: Ehhh Daniel, why are you acting like this?

 

Best man: I must confess that I love Ayomide.

 

Groom: This can’t be!

 

Bride: I am sorry, it is the truth!

 

Brother: I can’t believe this

 

Mother: Why, my daughter?

 

Bride: Tito isn’t rich, he is too skinny, and he isn’t hardworking.

 

Mother: Ahh! Don’t say that!

(Turns to in-laws) Please forgive her

 

Father: No, you insulted my son!

 

Mother: (fighting the father) Ah! See you with your nonsense everyday outfit.

 

Brother: Leave my father alone!

 

Bride: You too, leave my mother alone!

 

Officiator: Calm down (physically separate everyone)

 

Mother: Please, let us leave

 

*Mother hisses, grabs daughter and leaves*

 

Groom: I’m finished! My wedding has gone south!

 

Taxi Driver and chef comes in at end for comedic relief with food

 

Taxi Driver: Ah ah. Where did everyone go?

 

Server: I don’t know o!
