Lowell   Brower

A longtime affiliate and the former Head Teaching Fellow of the African Language Program, Lowell Brower earned his PhD from the Department of African & African American Studies at Harvard University in 2019. His work focuses on African oral traditions, communal storytelling, and cultural reinvention in the aftermath of violence, displacement, and profound social rupture. Fluent in Kiswahili and Kinyarwanda, Lowell has conducted extensive ethnographic and folkloric research in communities throughout Rwanda and Tanzania. Lowell has worked as a Kiswahili Language Instructor, and has assisted with African Language Program administratin and curriculum development, the annual African Languages in the Disciplines Conferences, and the Africa's Sources of Knowledge Digital Library.
